1959: Jim Byer '62 (crew team member and later Headmaster, 1994 - 2009) with Paul Chesebro (then Headmaster) and Eleanor Roosevelt (wife of U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt) christening new crew boat (Spirit of '59) with Crew Captain Bruce Barren. Hun Crew that year took 2nd Place in the National Schoolboy Rowing Championship Event in Philadelphia. Barren (rowing in an 8-man shell for the Penn Athletic Club, Philadelphia) in 1965 placed 2nd in the New York World Fair's Regatta, the longest rowing competition at the time in the world, coming over a 4 1/2 mile distance.
